Travel and Biosecurity Guidelines

Travel Requirements for all equines (horses, mules, donkeys, etc.) visiting the JW Ruby Research Farm at Reedsville

All equines visiting our facility are REQUIRED to have:

  • Proof of a negative Coggin’s test within 12 months
  • A valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) within 30 days of travel or Equine Passport within 6 months of travel (for out of state equines)
  • Proof of rabies vaccination within 1 year
  • Proof of Flu/Rhino vaccination within 6 months
* bring copies of the required records and submit at the show office at check-in

We also RECOMMEND equines visiting our facility are vaccinated for:

  • Eastern and Western Equine Encephalitis
  • Potomac Horse Fever
  • Tetanus
  • West Nile Virus

Biosecurity Requirements for all equines (horses, mules, donkeys, etc.) visiting the JW Ruby Research Farm at Reedsville

Absolutely no visiting equines or people are permitted to:

  • Enter the WVU only stabling area in the horse barn (do not travel past the blue wall dividing our stalls from the public or enter the barn thru the WVU entrance)
  • Hand graze or turnout horses near or in our pastures
  • Utilize our wheelbarrows, manure forks, buckets, or other supplies
Practice good biosecurity at our facility for the safety of all horses:
  • Do not bring sick or questionable animals to the event
  • Supply your own water buckets, muck forks, muck buckets, etc. for your string of traveling horses and do not share with others on site
  • Do not put the tip of the hose in water buckets to fill them up
  • Do not allow horses to have nose to nose contact
